Why are Democrats the Only Ones Who Laugh At Themselves?

I like to know what is going on in the world, but I also get insanely depressed, angry, and overwhelmed when I do.  I will go on a rampage of educating myself on current events, and then feel so violated by how gross the world is that I have to cry in a fetal position in a bath of lavender for two hours.  The more I know, the more angst I feel.  So guess what GI Joe? You were fucking wrong.  Knowing isn’t half the battle, it is the battle.

A lot of times I take the easy way out and turn to John Stewart and Stephen Colbert to be my source of news, because if I am going to go up in flames, at least I want to be laughing.  Even if they are using satire as their medium, they are still covering the issues of the week.  But why is it that the vast majority of political comedy is produced by those that are left leaning? Of course Stewart and Colbert clearly make fun of the “right” more, but they very often crack jokes about democrats as well.

There is something to be said about being able to laugh at yourself, and the fact that Stewart and Colbert mock the entire political landscape, even their own party.  It is not like you ever hear far “right” commentators Like Rush Limbaugh taking little digs at his party affiliates.  And what does that say about the psychology behind this?

Perhaps people that are more liberal in their politics are more likely to explore and examine the absurdity of it all.  The fact that the world is mostly controlled by rich white men who only have their own interests in mind and pit us against each other so we ignore the blatant injustice of it all. Maybe those that are going to affiliate with the left inherently get the joke?
