I know we have all been there. You get on a plane, and you think life is okay. Then you see them. A mother and her baby. They are coming towards you. You pray. You tell the universe that you will give up reality TV for a week if they will just sit on the other end of the plan. And then, it happens. They sit right behind you, and you cry even before the baby does.
Now although nobody likes to hear someone’s baby cry, what I never thought about is how that mother feels knowing that everyone is judging her because her baby is crying. She is probably thinking to herself, “I will give up reality TV for a week if you will just shut your boobie hole and stop embarrassing me.”
Okay fine, I like reality TV.
I have yet to take The Munch out in public and she has cried, but I am seriously dreading this moment. I had a taste of it the other day when a friend came over, and The Munch was in a pissy mood while we were trying to do yoga. I started to get really anxious, even though my exterior was trying to maintain a Zen attitude. “Mmmm yes, babies cry. Om Shanti.”
But what I was really thinking “WTF Munch?! You are making me look bad while I am trying to get my downward dog on!”
It made me realize the reality that I have no control over her feelings and emotional state of mind. Although she still is at an age where she is very easy influenced by me… meaning when I paid full attention to her, making faces like Jim Carrey and tickling like Elmo, she was be happy again. But the second I put her down to do my thing, she would tear up in protest and make this face 🙁
Normally, if I was by myself, I wouldn’t feel any of the stress I felt having another person witness this display. I started to question if I looked like a bad mom because my baby was so needy and would rather I threw her in the air then practiced my headstands. There is something about an audience that made me question my parenting like Alex Trebec.
I guess I have to just remind myself that no one is judging my parenting and I should just do what is best for my baby. Wait… whoops… people are probably judging my parenting because I know I am. Ahhh Munch, you teach me so much about life… Namaste.
