You Chose Me

When I was a kid it was really hard to conceptualize a world without me in it.  I couldn’t believe that there was existence that preceded me.  How could it be that my birth wasn’t in fact the big bang of the universe?  It just made no sense.

I think why it was so challenging for me to comprehend the idea of life before me, was because it brought up a the question “where did I come from?”  I mean sure you parents can tell you “you came from dad’s balls sweetie, and then you lived in mom’s twatt for a few months before she squirted you out.”  But that doesn’t solve the existential question of how that life really began, and where you were before you were you.

I think The Munch is grappling with this philosophical conundrum.  The other day, she was playing on her skateboard, and I thought it would be fun to tell her how her mommy used to do that as well.

Toni: You know Munch.  When Mamma lived in New York City, I used to skateboard everywhere I went.

Munch: When you were a little girl?

Toni: No.  I was a big girl, but I wasn’t a mommy yet.

Munch: So did you live in your computer? Like, were you a movie inside your computer?

Toni: Kinda… Or I was just alive in the real world.

Munch: But where was I?

Toni: You weren’t born yet.

Munch: But where was I?

Toni: I don’t know.  Where do you think you were?

Munch:  I think I was waiting for you to choose me.
