Why do babies put everything into their mouths?
If we were hanging out together, and I picked up my phone to text someone, would you take it from me and start sucking on it? Or if I were reading, would you grab my book to chew on it? What if you were sitting on the floor and saw an unidentifiable brown blob… would you lick it too see how it tasted?

Yeah yeah, the mouth has more nerve endings per square millimeter than any other body part so it is their way of exploring the world. But is really that important for life? Is discovering the texture of my flip-flop going to get her on the right career track? What is she learning by chomping on the remote control?
There is no stopping it either. If you try and take everything out of their mouths that they put in there you would need a full time assistant and an intern. A cute unpaid one that is a real eager beaver and just out of college…
