There is nothing more overwhelming then thinking about the environmental damage being done to the world. It has gotten to a point where I can hardly educate myself on current catastrophes because my heart can’t take in any more information. I look at my little Munch and wonder what kind of apocalyptic future is in store for her and I want to cry, and then buy her some eco-friendly Mad Max inspired appropriate attire, and then cry some more. But not too much… I don’t want my eyes getting all puffy.
I know there are a lot of positive efforts happening in the world and I shouldn’t be totally pessimistic, especially because stress causes weight gain and bikini season is upon us. I often encounter people working tirelessly towards are more respectful relationship to the earth, and that gives me some hope. There is a movement motivated towards systemic change and more and more members are joining. But there is still of film of dread that coats my being, wondering if it’s too late? That the only way real change will ever happen is if cataclysmic devastation forces it.
But then I think of the potential of human evolution and the possibility that all the answers are already in front of us. Hippies are always talking about a shift in consciousness, and in a way I believe that is where the majority of our efforts should be channeled. Maybe it is not about expecting future scientific discoveries and technology to save us, but the power of our own minds and ancient connection to nature. I believe there is a telepathic connection we can tap into, and once psychically united, we can heal the damage. That the power of mindful meditation could manifest a global cleansing, and if we all connected on a spiritual level, focused our power of thought, we could detoxify the poison on the planet.
“Yeah mom, why don’t you sit cross legged, close your eyes, become one with the universe, and get on that… because I kind of like breathing air, and swimming, and stuff…”
