It has been a long time since I have done any hallucinogenic drugs – mainly because you are high for a really long while. I don’t remember the last time I had 10 hours to kill on acid, with NOTHING else to do that day. In the adult world we usually have things we are supposed to accomplish, or beings we are expected to keep alive… like my dog/cat/child. It was easy to take mushrooms when I was 16 because I didn’t have any responsibilities besides making sure I wiped front to back.
Yet recently I was listening to “This American Life,” and the subject was “I Was So High.” I am not sure if the reaction I was supposed to have after listening was that of intense nostalgia for being insanely high, but it was. It made me feel like “Awwwwww man… when was the last time I thought about how I can telepathically communicate with trees, or feared that sneezing would turn my face inside out?”
It made me think back to the times in my youth when I was most high on hallucinogenic drugs and the things I did, that maybe I should still do?
1) After taking acid on New Years Eve, instead of staying at the party, I went home with my friend and read the dictionary.
2) When I tried liquid acid for the first time, I jumped on a trampoline for 4 hours.
3) During spring break my junior year of high school, my friend and I ate acid for breakfast. We then went to the South Station Bus/Train terminal and spent the entire day sitting on the bathroom sinks in the public restroom, and talking to people who were washing their hands.
4) I ate mushrooms while tailgating at a concert, and was devastated by all the trash people were unconsciously discarding. I started crying hysterically at the beer cans and BBQ flavored paper floating by me in the breeze. I couldn’t understand how people were so careless towards the environment – even jam band hippies with hemp colored hemp! I never ended up going inside to see the show, and instead spent the entire time picking up garbage in the parking lot.
I was such a better person- hyper academic, bounced around, talked to strangers and an eco warrior!!!!!!
