The Smoking Baby

I am pretty sure I just totally corrupted my child in a major way.  It all started with a simple car ride.  Like I have mentioned before, if I am driving a long distance I will let The Munch watch the Ipad so she annoys me less, and because I am a really good mom.

Problem is that I have no control over what she watches because she is in the back seat holding that thing like it’s the Holy Grail.  To pry it out of her hands while I am still driving is as impossible as licking your own tongue.  So I am at the mercy of her will when it comes to what she watches.

Not only do I have no quality control over what The Munch is exposed to, but I am also facilitating her acquiring a nice little case of ADD.  She has phases where she switches videos every 30 seconds.

“I want to see the baby crying… I want to see the baby laughing… I want to see Elmo… I want to see Mickey Mouse… I want to see Elmo talking to Mickey Mouse…”

So you can imagine my initial relief when she finally settled on one video.  Expect that video happened to be this charming expose on a smoking baby done by the BBC.  Now you may assume I mean a baby who is smoking because it is about to catch on fire…, which is horrible, but seems reasonable.  At least more reasonable than what is actually happening, which is a video of A BABY SMOKING CIGARETTES.

Munch must have watched this video easily 23 times.  Here is a sample of my inner monologue while this went down.

“Wow, it is probably a really bad idea for her to be seeing images of a baby smoking.  Especially because he smokes in such a seductive manner.  That baby is really enjoying his cigarettes.  All 40 a day that he ingests.  Crap, this can’t be good.  But she is so entertained.  Maybe Munch is taking in the disdain in the reporters voice and will be deterred by his obvious judgment.  Yeah…. That makes sense… she is not as affected by this baby’s reaction to the delicious taste of smoking… but the reporter’s soft yet subtle disparagement.”

“Hey Mamma… you got a smoke?”
