It’s easy to get sick of people. It’s also easy for people to get sick of you. Being around someone for an extended period of time can get annoying. That is why living with people can feel so exasperating. I am pretty sure that 90% murders are committed against those that are cohabitating with the murderer… I don’t know this for a fact, and in truth I just made that up, but it sounds realistic so that’s got to mean something.
The more you are with someone, the more you are forced to deal with every component of their personality. Their highs and lows are on display for you to witness and get slurped into the vortex of. Although this type of close knitted dynamic will create intimacy, on the other spectrum, there is the delicacy of new relationships where everyone is on their best behavior that is easy to envy. Strangers that are trying to impress each other by creating the façade of faultlessness. Don’t you ever want to tell the person you love “Fuck man, can’t you act like you just met me so I want to choke you less?”
Although Mother Nature creates a hormonal concoction to ensure that you have endless patience and love for your child, it doesn’t mean that sometimes you won’t want to jump in your car and drive 200 miles away from them. Which is exactly what I did yesterday. I went on my first solo adventure for 24 hours away from my child.
This is the longest we have been apart, yet we both seemed pretty okay about it. I thought of her obviously, and I am sure The Munch thought of me as well, but I think it was good to get a little break from the bond. But the best part of the entire experience was reuniting again. She was just so excited to see me, and spent an hour straight telling me stories of everything she did.
“Mamma, Mamma, Mamma, I sneezed over here. Right here on the steps. And then I was crying. Over here outside. Come!!! COME MAMMA! Right here on the rocks I was crying. Then I climbed up this hill. Watch Mamma. WATCH! Then I went over here to the chickens with the baby and it was sooooo funny. Baby was laughing! She made poops in the potty because she was wearing her underwear! Mamma, Mamma, Mamma, then I was like Oh No because I couldn’t see the plane. Mamma, No listen to me! I don’t want to see the stars! I am going to use this stick as a diaper.”
(How could I ever get sick of that face I wonder!? Oh I know how… because of that mouth hole).
