Romantic relationships are a lot of work for just 3 seconds of bliss a couple of times a week. Haha. Just kidding. More like a couple of times a month. We put up with a lot for our intimate partners, and expecting them to be perfect is like expecting not to get frosting on your nose when you bite into a cupcake.

I got thinking about romantic dynamics and I had this idea that if I could just befriend a genius from the Apple Store my life would be better. Then I had this other thought and wondered what would happen if a guy who likes to murder hitchhikers picked up a hitchhiker who likes to murder people who pick up hitchhikers? Maybe they would then try to murder each other at the same time and have a good laugh.

Back to relationships. My theory is that the majority of fights you have with your lover can be boiled down to one main conflict. One ultimate tension that is manifesting in many different ways, but the root cause is the same. Lets take for example jealousy… not the kind of jealousy where you have to change your name and move to Iowa, but the type of possessiveness where they get mad at your “liking” someone’s Facebook picture.

Yes, their insecurity and jealousy is exasperating, but at the same time their passion for you is probably pretty sexy.

Every thing that sucks about a person is also why you are attracted to them. You enjoy their intense insane interest in you while they are licking the back of your knees, but not so much when they are sulking because when you paid for your groceries your hand lingered too long in the cashiers.

I feel like this idea is empowering because when you are fighting with you lover, you can internally come to understand that what is really going on is probably not what is actually being said. And whatever you are really fighting about is also apart of why you guys are together. So if you are feeling theatrical by all means entertain yourself in the drama, but just remember to laugh inside because you have seen that person naked and that is funny.
