Life is such a blur. There is only so much our brains can retain, and most moments get lost in the ether. Mundane schedules make it difficult to distinguish one day from the next, and you don’t always know what will remain in your mind’s eye as time passes.
I sometimes look at pictures of my past and it is challenging to relate to that person who was living that life. Something about my personal history can seem almost foreign. Not only is it masked in the ethereal nature of a thought, but I was also a slightly different person.
But every so often something happens that you know is going to be a memory. One that you will keep for all the moons you have left to live. A memory as vivid as the seconds it was lived. You just close your eyes and the imprint of every detail is effortless to recall. It is a memory so valuable that you can’t help but relive it countless times.
I had one of these moments yesterday. I brought The Munch to the beach to throw rocks in the water and look at the mountain. I was sitting on a chair watching the sunlight leap across the water’s surface when she crawled into my lap and said for the first time, “I love you.”
