Life can be so boring. There is so much obligation, repetition, compromise that we have to endure, when really we should be swinging naked from trees having love affairs while eating fruit and defecating freely on the forest floor.
We get up, we work, we eat, we watch tv, we go to bed, we get up blah blah blah. Sure there are the weekends, vacations, moments of variety and delight…. But much of our existence is about the daily grind and being a so-called “responsible adult.” Hey… did you notice if you changed the “o” to an “e” it would be res-penis-ible?
When you have a child your life becomes even more about the routine because they don’t get that not eating breakfast and lunch is a good way to stay skinny. And the sacrifices you have to make for your kid are endless. Sure Munch… take my sandwich cause you want it -then throw if on the floor because you don’t, fine we won’t go hang out with my friends because you need to “be to bed before 11,” go ahead and try on my shoes then spit your chewed up cracker into them.
But this same little demanding being that I have to revolve my life around is also the best part of my day. In all these things we have to do over and over and over and over again she always brings a fresh perspective. Like every time after bath we say goodnight to different objects in the bathroom and without fail it makes me so full of adoration to hear what she wants bid adieu before she drifts off into dreamland.
“Bye brush…bye bath…by towel… by creamy (diaper cream)… bye meow (cat)…bye towel (you already said that).”
Maybe I am just the boring one?
