No one likes to be laughed at. Seriously. Stop laughing. It is pissing me off. I don’t think this is funny at all. Forget it I am out of here. God you are so stupid.
But sometimes people do things that are really funny to you, even if it is not at all humorous to them. Are you supposed to hold it in for their benefit like fart? No way! You can get colon cancer doing stuff like that. You have to let it out, despite the fact that it will disturb others.
Though the initial release of merriment will feel delightful, you then have to deal with the bitter consequence of someone being annoyed at you for laughing at them. Sometimes you can blow this off, but that is only if you are in a slutty mood. Usually you have to deal with their scorn, and apologize for chuckling at their expense even though you don’t mean it. You have to pretend to feel remorse so you don’t seem like a sociopath.
Most of the time other adults can be empathetic to inappropriate fits of giggling, but do you want to know who is not so forgiving? A two-year old. The Munch gets so livid when I laugh at her I swear she is going to push me down the stairs one day.
For example, there was a time when Munch was sitting on the big girl potty, where her little bum didn’t exactly fit. She was having a grand old time perched on the seat talking about going pee and poops and other riveting stories of that ilk, when all of a sudden PLOP. She fell into the toilet, her butt submerged in urine-feces water, and her little legs 90 degrees in the air. Perfectly folded in half like a baby origami. Not only did I immediately start cracking up, but so did my friend who was with me. The two of us… laughing away as I discharged her from the confines of the bowl while Munch ordered me not to laugh. I am officially starting a change jar for her future therapy treatments.
Another time The Munch was in the bath and I was trying to wash her tushie, but she didn’t want me to.
“No Mamma NO!!! Don’t wash my bum! Wahhhhahhhaaaah”
“Munch I have to. You have poops in your bum.”
“But I want to have poops in my bum!!!!”
“Hahahahahahaah”
“NO MAMMA NO!! STOP LAUGHING!!!!!!!! DON’T LAUGH!”
Or the time when she was watching her cousin Calvin take a bath while handing him toys… and then slipped into the bath with her dress and shoes on. Yeah she was really wet and surprised, and yeah I laughed until I cried, and yeah she was pretty irritated at me for that too.
I remember my mom laughing at me when I was young and it would make me furious. As a kid, you want to be taken seriously so badly, but adults keep cackling in your face when you do stupid shit. I remember the rage I felt…but now I get it. If I give birth to a being, suckled it at my breast for years, took care of it, kept it alive, fed it, bathed it, and loved it… pretty sure I am going to laugh my ass of at it whenever I feel like it.
“Seriously Mamma, that is not funny.”
