When I was a kid, I don’t remember having an opinion about fashion. I recall my best friend Lizzie would wear grey sweatpants a lot, and I thought that was pretty cool. So I think that gives you a pretty good idea about where I am coming from.
The Munch however is very fashion conscious. She not only cares about color, but also style, and whether or not something “matches.” If I try and convince her to wear something she doesn’t want to, I might as well try squeezing toothpaste back into the tube. It is just not going to happen.
But at The Munch’s hippy school they care way more about function over form since they keep the kids outside all day like farm animals. I appreciate that Munch is given so much time to commune with nature or what have you, but the pink sparkly dress she insisted on wearing doesn’t exactly keep her warm. At my parent teacher conference we talked quite a bit about how Munch needs more practical clothes consisting of wool.
Considering we live in the tundra, and I didn’t want her teacher to yell at me, I went online to look for some “suitable weather appropriate attire” for Munch. Yet every website I looked at for “wool undergarments” consisted of bland shirts made of all natural fabrics dyed with pigment gathered from innards of bark. There is no way I am getting my kid to wear ecru or beige. If clothes aren’t pink with sequins The Munch will fight me, and she will win.
I had to spend hours sifting through the interwebs trying to find some Waldorf appropriate woolen garb with personality. I mean I am all for being an organic hippy and everything weaves with clouds and makes ponchos out of wind, but can’t we get some sparkles in color in this shit?
