Afraid To Have Fun With You

Okay, here is the problem with having “fun” with a child.  You do something you think would be amusing, like throwing them up in the air, and assume that will be enough.  That one delightful little toss, exhilarating, and thrilling as it is, should be all the satiation they need. Just a single charming moment in the story of their life that they will fully appreciate till the end of time.

Nope wrong.

As soon as your show a child a good time the first thing they will say is “again.”  Not “thank you that was lovely,” but “do it again.”  You might fall for this little trick of theirs.  Figure one more time will be satisfactory, but au contraire.  “Do it again!”  The entertainment is never enough once they have gotten a taste. Show a child joy and they will become a junkie desperate for their next hit.  Note to self : don’t give my kid heroine.

There are times that I will pick The Munch up and fling her across the couch into the pillows just for a laugh.  I will relish in the delicious expression on her face and piercing giggles.  There is a split second where I think to myself “how wonderful that I just brought my child such happiness.” But then reality sets in and I realize “oh fuck… what have a done?”  Then the next half-hour of my life is spent chucking my kid across the room hoping she lands on the cushions.  This will last until I accidently hurt her, or my deltoids give out.

Maybe I shouldn’t admit this, but there have been times when I hold out on hilarity just because I would rather live my life than let her jump off the ladder into my arms 17,000 times.  Am I a terrible person that sometimes I fear doing something insanely exciting with The Munch?  Okay… maybe I am super selfish, but so is she so whatever.

(That blur is the Munch being catapulted through the air)
